The Luxury Apparel Sale...Proceeds to benefit the Children of a Fallen Firefighter and Friend

The Luxury Women's Apparel Sale (click left link for details) will not only give ladies in Buffalo a unique opportunity to purchase imported European couture leather, fur and high-end vintage accessories, but it will also, provide a sound financial future to the children of my friend Fallen Buffalo Firefighter Jonathan Croom.  This past summer both Jonathan and Lieutenant Charles (Chip) McCarthy perished in the line of duty while attempting to rescue a person thought to be inside.  Buffalo Arts Academy Alumni are a tight knit clan and, as the terrible news spread of Jon's death, we all felt compelled to help and protect his children as Jon was known to do for all of us.

Therefore I dedicate this event to his memory and have arranged to donate partial proceeds to the "Gift at the Pearl" a 14 Band Fundraiser for the Children of Fallen Firefighter Jon Croom.

This event is co-sponsored by Apple's Haberdashery, Baliza Ladies Clothing of Columbus, Ohio and Moda Vintage Store of Buffalo

Jennifer Parker's Reception at Keinhans was Lovely and Angela Brown was Magnificent

I got the photos from the evening with Angela Brown.  Her voice is amazing and you can feel her spirit release from her mouth as her verdian soprano sound transports us emotionally aaahhhhh...Madame Butterfly.  The VIP reception offered lovely hors d' oveuvres and wine...and I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want to stuff some in a napkin and snack on them later, 'cause they were just that good.  After emerging pre-show to greet VIP guests and snap a couple of pictures, she was off to her dressing room to do whatever majestic women of her caliber do before a show.  We were all given a complimentary cd of her interpretation of classic spirituals along with a signed picture...I will treasure mine always.  Here I'm pictured with Alphonso O'Neil-White, President/CEO of Health Now and Jennifer Parker Esq. President/CEO Black Capital Network.  Dinner hour came and Oliver's Restaurant did not disappoint.  The Mary Seton Room, with its calming acoustics, boasted a sea of smiling brown-hues that were dressed impeccably and fully credentialed.  And then she came out.  And then she sang.  And then she gave us the play-by-play "sista-girl" explanation/description of events.  It was fun.  I meant it when I told her that [her] "voice sounds as if her vocal cords where dipped in warm honey."  She giggled at the description...and I don't blame her.

Opera Singer Angela Brown

I've been a active with the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo for quite a while.  Therefore, I take great interest in the philanthropic endeavors that individual groups initiate.  Tonight, the Foundation Hosts, New York Metropolitan Opera Soprano Angela Brown who will take the stage at the historic Kleinhans Music Hall to demonstrate the luxurious finesse that makes her sound unique.
After tonight's show I will sit down with Ms. Angela Brown to hear her perspective on the grandeur that surrounds the music and culture that has sustained Opera over the centuries and how her artistic interpretation helps this genre endure for generations who are growing less familar with it.

Me Standing Next To...Bo Derek in Montreal!

Hey I just found some pics from one of my visits to Montreal.  Check me out on the right.   I'm doning a vintage half hat and sipping a cup of "wake up" at a cozy little cafe with my sister and who do you know was enjoying breakfast at the other table?  None other than Bo Derek with John Corbett (Aidan Shaw of Sex and the City)  they were filming a movie at the time so we really lucked out!  John was a bit camera shy but Bo was kind enough to pose for a picture.  I told her of how I practiced eating a banana  just like she did in the movie Tarzan, The Ape Man (1981).
I'm gonna do my best to make room in my schedule to get back to that beautiful city in time to catch the Vintage Haute Couture exhibit.
