Hello World I'm Here!

This photo was soooo appropriate.  After my one-on-one interview with fashion designer John Patrick (Organic) I felt on top of the world, however the fashion world quickly reminded me the extent of my popularity.  Now I know what Carrie Bradshaw felt like when she and the girls went on vacation to L.A. and she realized that her celebrity existed only in NYC.  Nonetheless, I'm still buzzin over all the beautiful clothes as well as the great folks that I was able to chat and exchange info with. RIP Alexander McQueen

I have received the tragic news of the untimely death of style icon Alexander McQueen.  His work was genius and continues to influence my wardrobe tastes.  May he rest in peace and my prayers are with his family and friends.

Hello Fall Fashion Week / Farewell Bryant Park

The temperature is 20 degrees in New York City but it's the hottest week of the year...Fall Fashion Week 2010. I'll be headed to Bryant Park to witness magic on the catwalk at the Tracy Reese and Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation shows. This season's wardrobe extravaganza is bitter sweet since it will be the last one held at the place where it all started-- Bryant Park. However, the mood is still light as the fashion genie has sprinkled a dose of fairy dust on the occasion by arranging a one-on-one interview to be conducted by me with the formidable John Patrick, winner of the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award in the Sustainable Design Category, at his design studio... can you say Fabulous!? As Senior Contributor for UpFront TV Magazine I can exercise quite a bit of creative license when determining episodes for the show and my lifestyle segment. Thankfully Ecco Domani's Sustainable Design category at fashion week will give us EXACTLY what we look for in luxury, "green" repurposing, and hopefully we can spur Upstate and Canadian retailers to carry Mr. Patrick's designs as his work is sure to turn heads and be a force in fashion world wide and... I Can't Wait.

It's official! All of you stylistas have even more ways to get that great Apple's Haberdashery luxury vintage look! Apple's Haberdashery vintage purses and accessories are now available at Modern Nostalgia boutique on Allen Street in Buffalo, New York.  This is a perfect union of contemporary fashion and time tested style.  If you have yet to visit the store you'll be pleasantly surprised by the clever decor and first-class designer labels.  For those "jonesin" for a glamma fix, I've stocked the store with clutches that are so hot you'll need an oven mit.  As always if you want the best in vintage just look for the pink feather and velvet label.

It's Dr. King's Birthday and groups everywhere are commemorating the life of this civil rights leader by engaging in community service activities both great and small.  It is also a time of both despair and triumph as we witness, experience and empathize with the people of Haiti as they endure the aftermath of the 7.0 earthquake that has claimed countless lives and destroyed the physical landscape of this beautiful nation and its loving people.

With the state of the world seeming a bit hopeless I searched to find a reason to blog today.  Everything in my world seems trivial compared to what others must face.  Therefore I am going to use this opportunity to pray for all people affected by the earthquake.  I am also encouraging people (myself included) to give of themselves in whatever way they can, whether it's through a cash donation, taking in of refugees, going to Haiti to provide medical care or anything that may be of assistance to those in need. 

New Year, New Ventures

Happy New Year!  It's three in the morning and I can't wait to share the news that I'll be hosting a regular lifestyle segment on Upfront TV news magazine.  The show will air on ABC, Channel 7 WKBW TV, whose market encompasses Western New York and Southern Ontario, Canada.  The concept for the show is much like the blog.  I will continue to bring you current trends in the vintage and antique world with clever tid bits on repurposing.  However, we'll be exploring these treasures within the context of the beautiful Niagara Region.  Expect the premire in February.

What to wear dilemma? Don't be “tardy for the party” or worse, discover you've got a long lost twin.

With so many winter formals occurring over the course of the holiday season, you are bound to suffer a “snow-ball” meltdown if you limit your wardrobe to the traditional retail outlets. Spending hours in the mega mall to obtain the seasonal must-have won’t guarantee that you will avoid showing up to the party of the year with a look that is identical to three other women in the room. Oh what to do? A solution is as close as friends, family, the local vintage store or your own attic.

Honey It's Cold Outside

Fur easily falls into my category of re-purpose for the good of the planet since it stands in opposition to our society’s “throw away” mentality. I'm a collector and I’m thrifty by nature which is why I see vintage fur as a means to avoiding the stigmas attached to contemporary fur fashions. For all you animal lovers who can’t help but to be attracted to the sumptuousness of a sexy mink, here’s your “get out of jail” pass…a vintage fur worn is an animal saved.

Still a bit squeamish about sporting what looks like your neighbor’s pet? Toss it over a chair or your couch in place of an ordinary blanket throw. Tah-dah! You’ve got an instant Hollywood decor.
Believe me, if it’s beautiful I'll find a purpose for it.

Fashion and Wine at an Open House...Just Fine!
